Garmin InReachPro

One day design project, how to take what a Garmin InReach Mini and make it visible to riders with older eyes. For those that don’t know, InReach devices are a gps and satellite communicator for hikers, hunters, adventurers in the backcountry beyond cell reception. They have an SOS button that when activated contacts emergency services and have saved many lives. The Mini is a small, portable unit the size of a few matchboxes stacked together, but its screen is too small to see without connecting to an iPhone app and using the phone as an interface. I wanted to design one that maximized the screen footprint so you wouldn’t need reading glasses to see and use but stay true to InReach design language. I also wanted to add a green “All Good” button so you don’t have to laboriously type out messages when things are good to your primary contact or loved ones. You can just hit the green button during your adventure and they will know you are ok. I made the form factor longer so it first in your hand easier but is still thin. Kept the carabiner attachment as well so you can hook it to a pack where it’s easily reached in an emergency.  Modeled in Fusion 360, rendered in Keyshot.
