HOKA’s the premier sponsor for the 2023 UTMB Race Series. For this years race we created an ultra custom racing shoe for Jim Walmsley and other HOKA athletes. Based on the Hoka Tecton X chassis but with two densities of a new PEBA foam, parallel carbon plates, a knit sock upper and hyper light Matryx mesh upper tailored for the rigors of this race. Size 10 shoes came in at 7.5 oz which is incredible. We scrutinized every gram to remove anything unnecessary.
For 2023, Jim ended up finishing 1st Overall, breaking the course record in this shoe.
In 2024, incredibly, HOKA’s own Vincent Bouillard, our foam chemist, took the UTMB victory in the same pair of shoes!
